In 1758-1760, Samuel Johnson composed periodical essays, published as The Idler in order to bring relief to fellow idlers with minds gaping for intellectual food.   This blog offers some thoughts on the ways Diana Gabaldon has enchanted so many readers around the world with her novels since 1991, and the ways Ronald D. Moore’s Starz production adds to the excitement of Outlander, keeping us coming back for more.

About the blogger: Eleanor Ty is Professor of English at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada.  Her areas of specialization include 18th century fiction, feminist theory, and contemporary novels by Asian North Americans.
